How does your video speak to/interpolate the audience?
My Music Video:
Imagery and Iconography
- Mise en Scene: Costume/ Props/ Locations/ Symbolic images
The Imagery and Iconography is to be simplistic to the eye. I want it so the song and storyline itself become more prominent. This is so the visual is easy on the eye, the costume being someones everyday clothing, a plain t-shirt and trousers for both characters. The Props in my perspective need to be a persons everyday objects, trinkets and objects that would be in someones pockets, carried around by them everyday. For me the location is the most key aspect to the video in that I want it ideally to reflect the minds of the characters and connect to the lyrics within the audio correlating it.
Ideology, message and lifestyle
-Inspirational? Identification/ Political Alignment?
For the ideologies of our video, it again can be described as simplistic. Linking to point three to be made, I think the beautiful clean shots of our idealistic locations increase the heightened aspirations created when viewing our video, it is the feeling of wanting to experience what our characters are feeling. But most importantly I believe the chosen story line of finding love is in itself inspirational. It identifies utterly with the life of a young person, 16+, the idea that love is and has to be found to be content, the stereotypical teenage dream. However the complexity and ideas found within the lyrics then reaches a more older audience.
Positioning
- Camera/ Editing
Our camera editing will be precise, eye catching and endearing for the audience. I want it to allow the audience to feel as though they are either walking amongst the character or in their mind. The audience need to have a personalised opinion on the lives of the characters, so by filming a variety of close ups and panning following them I believe is the easiest way of creating this. By using two locations and filming their lives within those locations steadily and with ease to the eye I believe will emphasise the similarity to their lives. Long shots that we will use to set the stage will create the feeling that the audience member is there, seeing the same sites that the character in the distance is, almost breath taking.
Narrative and Structure
- Chapters/ Protagonist/ Leading through the narrative
Similar to things I've written from above, the protagonists are the key to making the audience feel included, they need to be relatable, the story line needs to hold some part of the audiences life experiences within that "finding someone to love" being the most important and relatable scenario. The characters hold the story line, they carry it through entirely. So when leading the audience through the narrative every shot holds a beautiful still movement shot or panning shot of the character.

Imagery and Iconography
- Mise en Scene: Costume/ Props/ Locations/ Symbolic images
For me this video relates to our ideas because the iconography and Imagery is so simplistic but beautiful, focusing entirely on what the characters are wearing, holding and doing. The props and Costumes are fairly alternative and eye catching however this plays on the contrast of the audio in coordination with it, the location is also similar to one of which we have chosen, it being vast and entirely stunning. This therefore draws the audience in, something we aim to do completely.
Ideology, message and lifestyle
-Inspirational? Identification/ Political Alignment?
This video gives a similar aspiration in that it shows a couple or simply male and female in touch with each other, with a connection, in a beautiful idealistic location, giving the same aspiration to live the lives of the characters, that we want to create with our music video.
Positioning
- Camera/ Editing
The positioning of the camera within this video uses symmetry frequently, this is easy on the eye for the audience and they use frequent close-ups and wide shots allowing the audience to see everything they need to, to understand the protagonists lives. Although the editing is slow, it is easy to watch, it allows thoughts to be created on what the story line with lead to, or any questions wanting to be asked. For me the editing correlates perfectly with the timing of the song, slow but complex, so with the addition of easy visuals, it allows similarly to what we want to do, an understanding of both lyrics and narrative.
Narrative and Structure
- Chapters/ Protagonist/ Leading through the narrative
There is not much analysis of narrative with this video, only that the protagonists quite obviously lead the narrative, no matter how simple it is.

Imagery and Iconography
- Mise en Scene: Costume/ Props/ Locations/ Symbolic
The Mise en Scene in this I believe links closely to what I picture my video to include. The locations of empty spaces to filled places, creating a sense of lost people, no way out of the system, and in this video the system being a relationship and a party lifestyle. The video is very simplistic when looking at the choices of costumes and Props, all emotion is really expressed through the characters action and performance. I think the imagery and iconography is very clever with this video, it is designed knowing the song was catchy and noticeable so knowingly they needed just simplistic imagery to accompany it, and this is the style that I want to attempt for my video.
Ideology, message and lifestyle
-Inspirational? Identification/ Political Alignment?
Because of it being such a simplistic story line it is is very difficult to suggest that it expresses much aspiration or political alignment, however it can be obvious to an audience member that there is room for relatability within this video, for instance the simple idea of a relationship that is slowly breaking, it is something everyone goes through, experiences in life.
Positioning
- Camera/ Editing
It is filmed in the perspective that the protagonist is in control of the edit, therefore the camera follows his every move and in turn follows every situation or emotional action he has to deal with within the visual. It is a very simple way of filming in that the cut isn't very often unless there is a change in the song or something happens to both the characters lives, for instance different locations, in this case being what looks like different rooms of a venue for clubbing or a gig.
Narrative and Structure
- Chapters/ Protagonist/ Leading through the narrative
Similar to what has been suggested for the camera and editing work, the protagonist leads the audience through the narrative this being symbolised by him leading us through the party or night club. This is where we see a variety of cuts to situations within his relationship, whether they are at the location he wonders through or in different settings, either way he allows us to view in into his life, whilst he performs through miming the lyrics occasionally to emphasise his role.
